We’re Investing in El Cerrito

El Cerrito is leading the way with a redevelopment effort that’s raising our profile around the San Francisco Bay Area.
The City is midway in a three-year, $7.5 million enhancement project on San Pablo Avenue, the lively commercial corridor we share with other East Bay cities. A fresh look is blossoming on our stretch of the Avenue now: welcome signs grace three entry points and colorful banners beckon, with new seating, signage, bike racks, crosswalks, street trees and landscaping under way.
On the civic front, $12.9 million was spent to build a new city hall to better serve both residents and businesses. This striking two-story structure, forms an attractive civic center with the adjacent public safety building.
The City’s upgraded standards for new development design and aesthetics are evident in these investments, as well as the following projects already completed or under way:
- The Village at Town Center, a mixed-use development of 158 apartments and 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space
- Residential projects taking shape near the Del Norte and Plaza BART stations along San Pablo Avenue
- The Cerrito Speakeasy Theater, an Art Deco theater restored in 2006 as a destination movie house and restaurant.
